Thanks Allister - I suspect you have some personal experience there just waiting to get out. There's also a beautiful headline in your comment about 'the middle of the herd', and, 'the middle of the heard' that's also waiting to get out. But it would be wasted on a brand that doesn't listen... :-)

Spot on! This is the type of announcement that could only ever be uttered by someone who is incapable of seeing the world from anyone's viewpoint but their own. Wake up SW Trains (and, for that matter, every other public transport company) and start appreciating how lonely and abandoned your customers feel even in the middle of the herd.

Scott,

I think you've missed the point - this IS the Southwest Trains brand. They have made a conscious and bold decision to be the biggest aunts in the rail industry. This is actually quite aspirational on their part as the rest of the industry is committed to the kind of jack booted fascism that would have made the SS envious.

There is probably a whole team of people in SW Trains (or SoWeTo) who have given a great deal of thought as to how to lift people's level of resentment for a service that they are forced in to using.

I am a particular fan of the in-carriage posters advertising how "There are no excuses" for not having a valid ticket, especially the one where the excuse is that the ticket machines were not working. I love this one because in one swoop they have managed to transfer the blame for their own appalling performance at keeping ticket machines running on to their customers - brilliant!
